Jewel Robert Withers, Jr. was born August 29, 1950 in Little Rock, AR to Elder Jewel Withers, Sr. and the late Mrs. Erma Lee Withers. He received his formative education through the Little Rock and North Little Rock School Districts. He graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1968. He attended Little Rock University (now known as University of Arkansas at Little Rock) from 1968 1970. He entered Jackson Theological Seminary in 1970 and graduated with a Masters of Ecclesiastical Studies in 1985. He also obtained a degree in Christian Ministry from Boyce Bible School in 1968.
Elder Withers was saved in 1964 under the leadership of his father, Elder Jewel Withers, Sr. He received the Baptism in the Holy Ghost in 1965. He acknowledged his call to preach in the summer of 1967 during a revival conducted by Evangelist Lark Cauley at the Ebenezer Church Of God In Christ. The late Bishop Leato Thomas Walker, Jurisdictional Bishop of Arkansas First Jurisdiction, ordained him an Elder in the Church Of God In Christ in September 1969. He served as District Y.P.W.W. President from 1975 1978. In 1975, Bishop L. T. Walker appointed Elder Withers as Assistant Jurisdictional Secretary where he served until 1977; at which time, Bishop Walker appointed him as Jurisdictional Secretary. He became the pastor of the historic Williams Temple Church Of God In Christ (Mother Church in Little Rock) on March 26, 1978. The service of installation was held on June 2, 1978.
Elder Withers served as Comptroller for the National General Council of Pastors and Elders from 1996 2001. In 1997, he was a participant at the Church Growth Conferences in Memphis, TN, Dallas, TX and Oakland, CA. He was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention in both 1978 and 2003. He was also a participant in the World Pentecostal Conference both in 1998 in Seoul Korea and again in 2006 in Los Angeles, CA. He has also served as Jurisdictional Trustee.
In addition to currently serving as Jurisdictional Secretary, Elder Withers is also Dean of Charles Harrison Mason Jurisdictional Institute, serves on the Jurisdictional Ways and Means Committee, Ordination Committee, and Jurisdictional Program Committee. Hes also a Jurisdictional Administrative Assistant, serves as Chairman of both the Little Rock District and the Jurisdictional Executive Committee, and is an Executive Committee Member of the National Pastors and Elders Council.
Elder Withers ultimate desire is to please God in all that he does. His Calling by God has not been taken lightly and he does whatever it takes to maintain priorities of his Calling.
Elder Withers is the proud husband of Joyce A. Withers for over thirty eight (38) years. Together they have parented three children; two (2) sons, Jewel III and Jeremy (Glencora) and one (1) daughter, Teresa Lee (LaDerrick). They also have four grandchildren: Jewel IV, Angel, Kennedi and Jonathan.
